Press release

"Smart Engineering" revolutionizes production industry. Intelligent machines, storage systems and production facilities will provide for autonomous data exchange, job processing and mutual monitoring in future production.

The European Union (EU) aims to create a development strategy to transfer smart industry also to small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), thus making them competitive for the international market. The basis is formed by the research project "SMeART", uniting 15 research institutions and companies from seven countries.

In the first instance, the researchers will make a survey on all funding initiatives already existing in the 28 member states. Moreover, they will develop a stress test tool for SMEs to find out their actual status on their way towards smart industry. In pilot projects with selected companies, researchers want to identify the particular demands of SMEs.

Based on the research results, the EU's aim is to provide specific support to small and medium-sized enterprises to promote their transfer to smart industry.
